Material
Thread
Yacht Canvas, Inc., mainly uses Sunbrella® acrylic fabric. It comes in a wide variety of colors to match most color schemes. The average life of Sunbrella® is 5 to 7 years.

In addition to Sunbrella®, they offer Forbo-Stamoid and Weblon. Also gaining popularity is Seamark™ from Haartz. It is similar to Sunbrella® only with a vinyl underside. This provides you with a waterproof acrylic product.

All main seams are double stitched for strength and water resistance. They use one row of blind stitching to hide the thread from the sun, and one row of topstitching.

Gore-Tex® Tenara™ thread is also an option. This thread is more UV resistant and comes in limited colors. Although it is a little more expensive, it should last the life of your canvas.

Zipper Sliders
Strataglass™
Yacht Canvas, Inc., uses YKK Vision® zippers with ceramic coated metal sliders.

The average life of these zippers is 3 to 7 years.

The theory behind Strataglass™ is that it is more scratch resistant than the average glass and it has more clarity. Strataglass™ also claims to have a life expectancy of 5 to 10 years.

Stainless Steel
Glass
Yacht Canvas uses .304 stainless steel as the standard for their frames, rails, and tension bars. They use 1" or 1 ¼" stainless steel depending on the size of the product. The best available stainless steel they can purchase is .316 stainless tubing. The biggest advantage for the purchaser is that there is less polishing. There are a few options available in clear glass. Their standard glass is .040 gauge double polished clear vinyl sheet glass. This glass has good visual clarity, and is reasonably priced. Its life expectancy is 3 to 5 years. They also use .060 Polycarbonate. This material is very optically clear, but it cannot be folded or rolled, so all products containing it are made by piece construction. Due to its low UV resistance, window covers are highly recommended.
